Installation & Connection FAQs
Do I need to manually connect GemX with GemPages?
No. Once both GemX and GemPages are installed on your Shopify store, the integration works automatically in the background. There is no activation step, toggle, or manual connection required.
Do I need to install both apps to run A/B tests?
Yes. GemPages is used to design and edit page templates, while GemX handles experiment logic, traffic splitting, and analytics. Both apps are required to run tests.
Does GemX automatically detect GemPages templates?
Yes. All published GemPages templates are automatically synced and appear inside GemX as selectable Control or Variant templates.
Is any coding or theme editing required?
No. The integration is fully code-free. You don’t need to add scripts, modify theme files, or paste tracking code.
Template Sync & Variant Management
How do templates sync between GemX and GemPages?
Template sync is automatic. GemX continuously reads your GemPages templates and keeps their names, versions, and publish states up to date.
What happens when I create a Variant from GemX?
When you duplicate a Control template from GemX, a separate Variant template is created inside GemPages. This Variant can be edited independently without affecting the original Control.
Can editing a Variant affect the Control template?
No. Control and Variant templates are completely isolated. Changes made to a Variant will not impact the Control unless you later apply a winning version.
Can I edit templates while an experiment is running?
Yes. You can edit templates during a live experiment by opening the Edit experiment option and accessing the template in GemPages. However, avoid major structural changes to keep test data reliable.
Running Experiments from GemPages vs. GemX
Can I run experiments directly inside the GemPages Editor?
Yes. You can open the GemX panel inside the GemPages Editor to create variants, configure basic settings, and start an experiment without leaving the editor.
What can I do inside the GemPages Editor workflow?
Inside the Editor, you can:
-
Create Control and Variant templates
-
Edit variants visually using GemPages elements
-
Set traffic split and primary goal
-
Launch the experiment instantly
What are the limitations of running tests inside the Editor?
The Editor workflow is designed for speed and simplicity. It does not support advanced targeting, deeper analytics, or large-scale experiment management.
When should I use the GemX Dashboard instead?
Use the GemX Dashboard when you need advanced experiment settings, detailed analytics, reporting, or when managing multiple experiments at scale.
Experiment Setup & Behavior FAQs
Why must templates be published before creating an experiment?
Only published templates can receive live traffic. Draft templates cannot be used as Control or Variant in an active experiment.
Can I test multiple hypotheses in one Variant?
It’s technically possible, but not recommended. For accurate results, each Variant should focus on one clear hypothesis to avoid noisy or inconclusive data.
Can I change traffic split after the experiment starts?
Depending on your setup, traffic split can be adjusted, but frequent changes may impact result reliability. It’s best to define traffic allocation before launching.
What happens if I edit a Variant during a live experiment?
Your changes will update on the live Variant immediately. Minor adjustments are fine, but large changes can invalidate previously collected data.
Analytics & Reporting with GemPages-based Tests
Where can I see full experiment analytics?
All detailed analytics and reports are available in the GemX Dashboard, not inside the GemPages Editor.
Why aren’t full analytics shown inside the Editor?
The Editor is optimized for design and quick experiment management. Analytics, comparisons, and insights are handled centrally in the GemX Dashboard.
Are metrics different for GemPages-based experiments?
No. Experiments created from GemPages use the same metrics, goals, and reporting logic as all other GemX experiments.
Can I compare GemPages-based experiments with other tests?
Yes. All experiments appear in the same dashboard, allowing you to compare results across different tests and workflows.
Troubleshooting Common Integration Issues
My GemPages template doesn’t appear in GemX
First, make sure the template is published and built with GemPages. Draft templates will not sync to GemX.
If the template is already published but still doesn’t appear, you can manually click the Sync button in GemX to force a template refresh and sync the latest GemPages templates again.
I can’t create an experiment from the Editor
Check that GemPages V7 is enabled and the template you’re editing is published.
My Variant changes don’t show up live
Confirm that the Variant template is saved and published. Draft variants cannot receive traffic.
Traffic doesn’t split as expected
Allow time for data collection and ensure no conflicting experiments are targeting the same page or audience.
